Be Safe for Independence Day

The Fourth of July is one of the most anticipated days of the year. It has become synonymous with barbecues, ball games, and fireworks. It is the first holiday of the summer season, and people are excited to enjoy an outdoor celebration.

Just as the holiday is associated with fun, it can also be linked to disaster. Many accidents occur over the Fourth of July weekend, including automobile accidents involving alcohol. Here are a few tips for staying safe for the holiday.

  • Be careful with fireworks – Find out which fireworks are legal in your area and adhere to regulations. If you are lighting fireworks, keep them away from homes and people. To dispose of fireworks, submerge them in a bucket of water before throwing them into the garbage can.
  • Don’t drive drunk – Drinking spices up any gathering. However, drinking too much could result in injury and even death—particularly if you get behind the wheel. Drink moderately. If you do cross the line and drink too much, make sure that you have a designated driver to get you home safely.
  • Grill with care – Grilling is a traditional part of the Fourth of July celebration, but any time you work with fire, accidents could happen. Step away from the grill when you light it. Make sure to turn it off when you are finished, and find someone else to man the grill if you have had too much to drink. You should also make sure that your grill is positioned at least 10 feet away from your home or camper.
  • Use care with personal items – Most people are on the move on the Fourth. They may be playing sports games at the park, boating, or visiting fireworks displays while balancing picnic items. It’s easy to lose track of your personal possessions, including high-dollar items such as your smartphone. With all of the activity, be sure that your smartphone is protected by safeguarding it with a tempered glass screen protector.

Exercising caution will help you celebrate the Fourth of July without regrets.
